We knew there had to be a
way to help pet owners create a safe and loving environment for their
dogs and cats and to prevent them from being turned into the shelter out
of frustration.
Our search for a solution,
led HOPE for Pets to the Senior Center in Shepherdsville and to their
Meals on Wheels Program. Knowing this would be the perfect
partnership, we developed our HOPE on Wheels program.
On March 1, 2006, we started HOPE on Wheels,
a program designed to help the seniors, low-income and special needs residents of our community with their daily pet care needs. HOPE on Wheels
provides free pet food and delivery for those who qualify. We
also try to assist in basic veterinarian care and spaying/neutering of
their pets.
Most
importantly, we are making a difference in the lives of countless dogs
and cats.
Once a
month, volunteers pack up the van with dog and cat food, litter and
goodies. They drive to the Senior Center and homes of needy pet
owners – some having no car, living in substandard housing, and unable
to read or write.
However,
spaying and neutering, extraordinary vet care, quality dog and cat food,
and other important supplies and services all cost money – lots of it.
In order for HOPE on Wheels to continue and aid the people and pets who
need it, HOPE urgently needs your help!
