Helping Our Pets Endure

MARKITA

Meet HOPE for Pets’ first placement in our

All About Seniors Program!

Well over ten years old, Markita was having a very rough life before she was rescued by the Lake Cumberland Animal Welfare League. She was neglected and left to fend for herself, having a litter of puppies when she was too old to take care of them. Taking shelter under a mobile home, poor Markita was scalded by a hot water pipe. She still bears some scarring from her injuries.

Markita’s life just changed! Thanks to the Lake Cumberland Animal Welfare League and diligent work by HOPE’s Vice-President, Nancy Barnes, Markita now has a home where she will be loved and taken care of for the rest of her life.

Newly named, Princess, she is now a companion to an elderly gentleman who lives in Brooks, Ky. Not only is Princess benefiting from this union, the gentleman’s VA nurse says he has been a different person since he found out he was getting another dog. He has even started participating in exercise classes at the senior activity center!

Princess has a few bad teeth that are going to be extracted and a small growth on her side that needs to be removed.  HOPE for Pets is paying for her medical procedures.

UPDATE ON PRINCESS!

Princess has had surgery and is recuperating nicely.  She had a growth removed which came back benign and 8 teeth removed.
